The Bundesverband Kinderhospiz is the umbrella organization for German children's hospices. It is committed to bringing the approximately 50,000 families in Germany who have a child with a life-shortening illness back into the mainstream of society. The Bundesverband Kinderhospiz is the point of contact for politics, business, science, funding bodies and donors and has its own support program for those affected.
In 2015, the Bundesverband Kinderhospiz set up the "OSKAR Sorgentelefon". Professionally trained staff can be contacted free of charge and anonymously 365 days a year, around the clock, to answer all questions about serious and incurable illnesses in children. OSKAR is also there for families in mourning and can be used by those affected and their relatives as well as by professionals. In 2020, BVKH expanded its services on the help platform Frag-Oskar.de to include chats for affected families and especially for young people, as well as a consultation hour on social law issues.
